If you’re looking for a reliable and competitively priced skip hiring service, then look no further! We can cater for domestic and commercial clients, as recycling professionals we pride ourselves in delivering our services with outstanding customer service. To make the whole process easier for you, we’ve put together a list of frequently asked questions so you’ll know everything you need to know by the time the skip is delivered to your door.

What size do I need?

Choosing the size of your skip depends entirely on what your intended use for it is, for example, if you’re looking to clear your garden of excess greenery we’d recommend a mini skip. If you’re unsure what size to hire, one of our team members will be more than happy to help.

What can I put in it?

Skips are useful for the removal of non-hazardous waste, which can encompass a variety of things including:

  • Green waste
  • Building debris
  • Packaging
  • Furniture
  • Wood
  • Metal

We have a variety of sizes that can be of use with any size project you may have, from 12 yard skips to 30 yard skips, we’ve got the perfect skip for every job.

What can’t I put in it?

Certain wastage causes harm to humans and must be disposed of through specialist processes to limit harm to the surrounding environment. Due to these regulations, the following cannot be placed in our skips:

  • Asbestos
  • Plasterboard
  • Liquid waste
  • Oil and petrols
  • Pressurised containers
  • Car engines and batteries
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Televisions and other household appliances
  • Syringes, needles and any other clinical waste
  • Poisonous plants, such as Japanese Knotweed

If you’re still unsure of what you can’t put in our skips, please contact a member of our team today.

How much can I fill it?

By law the skip cannot exceed level amount to ensure safe transport. If you’re still unsure, ask the delivery driver and he will be happy to show you the limit.

Where can I put the skip?

A skip can be placed anywhere on a private property provided the delivery driver can access the location. Once placed, the skip must not be moved under any circumstances, in case you make it inaccessible. If you’re looking to place your skip on public land, you will need a permit from your local council, but our team here at Thompson Fuel & Skip Hire can arrange this for you.

How long can I keep it for?

We have short and long term skip hire options available, talk to a member of our team and we can help you decide on the duration you’ll need the skip.

Is it legal/council approved?

Depending on where you’ll be placing the skip, you may need a permit. If you’re looking to have it placed on private land, then there are no permits needed and it’s completely legal. If you’re looking for a skip to be placed on public land, you’ll need a permit. A member of our team can sort this out for you, however this may take up to 5 working days.
